About the City:
Location: The district lies from 30-35 to 31-47’ C North latitude and 72-01 to 73 - 40o C east longitudes. It is bounded in the North by Gujranwala and Sheikhupura Districts, in the East by Sheikhupura and Sahiwal districts, in the south by Sahiwal and Toba Tek Singh districts and in the West by Jhang district.
Area and Population: Faisalabad district has an area of 5,856 sq km and a population of 65,00,000 souls. This district consists of eight towns.

Background: Faisalabad District came into existence in 1904 as Lyallpur District. The name Lyallpur was given with a view to pay tribute to Sir James Lyall Lt. Governor of Punjab, for his services rendered in colonization. In 70’s the current name of Faisalabad was given after the name of the Late King “Faisal” of KSA.

Industrial Growth: In the beginning Lyallpur now Faisalabad was developed as a hub of agricultural activities. It gained popularity throughout Punjab. Such as wheat grinding and cotton ginning units. These units kept enhancing their capabilities and at the time of independence 1947, there were four flour mills, textile mills, twelve ginning and six engineering units. After independence with the capabilities of our entrepreneurs and government support, a city which was basically an Agro-based industrial city with original base of power looms and textile processing, have grown up to the capacity of largest chemical plant in Pakistan and largest manmade fiber producing mills which are located in Faisalabad. Approximately 70% of textile export originates from Faisalabad. Indeed, it is the 2nd largest revenue producing to the national exchequer. Keeping in view, the trend of growing global market and its competition, value addition city and industrial city is in the advance stage of its completion. Once, established, both cities will play important role in the development of vender industries in Faisalabad and will further diversify its industrial base. After observing the current growth pattern of industrialization, it is safely predicted, that establishing of industry by the investors/ entrepreneurs, in Faisalabad, is a highly plausible, profitable and environmentally convenient.

Arts & Culture: Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, son of Fateh Ali Khan rose to enviable glory both as a qawal and a ghazal singer. He was an international figure and household name. He performed in several countries of the world, millions of his admirers love his art through the world. Later the auditorium which is managed by the Punjab Arts Council was named in his honor as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium which has the capacity of 5,500 audience.

Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology

Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology, Faisalabad started functioning on Tuesday 13th November 2007. This institute is tertiary level specialized autonomous institution for cardiac diseases. It consists of 202 beds. This institution is functioning under the provision of Punjab Medical and Health Institute ACT-2003 and rules made their under. It is situated near Chenab Club, Faisalabad. This Institution is providing services to Cardiac patients of District Faisalabad and its adjacent Districts like Sargodha, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Chiniot and beyond areas.

Punjab Medical College

Punjab Medical College is situated in Faisalabad. Faisalabad is the third largest city of Pakistan and is know for textile industry. Faisalabad has developed a lot in past few years. It has an airport for domestic and few international flights. City is connected to other cities via all means of transport. After the development of Motor way distance between Faisalabad, Islamabad and Lahore has decreased. Punjab Medical College is one of medical colleges of Government of Punjab. College was established in 1973-74. Spread over on area of 158 acres, college has a beautiful campus. Allied Hospital and DHQ Hospitals are the two hospitals that are attached with the college for clinical teachings of the students. College has separate hostels for boys and girls. Hospitals have separate hostels for male and female doctors.
